I'll admit it, I like reading magazines. Sometimes, even a literature major needs a break from dense material (or really any novel material)! There's something about quick stories and quips that is so satisfying- especially on a treadmill or a walk when my mind can't quite process long detailed information. Unfortunately, as a college student my disposable income has decreased significantly and I can no longer build up stacks and stacks of recyclable fun. So the question remains, which one to invest in?

fitness? (NOT my gym, haha)
I have such a wealth of interests that it's hard to narrow it down (note the, partial, sarcasm, haha). Of fitness magazines I tend to prefer Women's health (although sometimes a little dense, very interesting- the women's version of "Mens Health"), Fitness, or Shape (although sometimes a little fluffy). Self just doesn't do it for me.

nutrition?
I'm also a big fan of nutrition. The company that accredited my Nutrition and Wellness Consultant Certification has a newsletter with lots of tips; Health is usually interesting although I feel may cater to an older (i.e. over 20) crowd; Women's Fitness usually has some interesting information regarding nutrition also and Nutrition Today is always a good read, albeit a little high-brow. Lastly?

cooking
I salivate over Cooking Light and, for Valentines Day last year, my grandma got me the cookbook, haha! There are plenty of others to choose from too: Vegetarian Cuisine, Bon Appettit, etc. etc. Some of the fitness magazines usually include a few good recipes, but no where near the wealth and variety of these gems.
Question: Are you a magazine fan? What are your favorites? I may invest in a subscription to one and, with holiday season coming up... who knows! I would love some opinions...

wooooah, is that your gym? So elegant!
This is a weird recommendation, but Men's Health Magazine is REALLY good I actually prefer it over some of the womens magazines; there's less fluff involved, and better workout options.
Question; when/where did you get your nutrition accreditation? (I'm trying to decide what company I wanna do it with)
I bet you wish that was your gym! It's so fancy! :)
I agree with SB dreaming about Men's Health. I read every issue that Mal gets from cover to cover.
Hey guys, I Love men's health too (tina, you're lucky mal gets it, haha). Have you guys seen women's health? It's by the same company as means health(same color scheme, hard to miss) except geared specifically towards women. I can't decide if they 'dumb it down' or anything...
I am a huge fan of Magazine subscriptions. You can get a whole year for like $12 through some companies. Its the ceapest way to go and I love that it gets deliever straight to my door. Currently I get Self & Glamour but I am really itnerested in asking for a Women's Healthy Mag for christmas.
i am a magazine freak! i get almost every fashion magazine in the mail as well as health and fitness. i really like those health and fitness, and my favorite fashion magazines are: lucky, glamour, and vogue! For Christmas I really want a subscription to yoga journal!
in response to your comment on my post this morning- i love that quote you wrote :) i refer to that every day, actually. okay, i feel stretched on the spinal twist BUT i feel as if one shoulder is always lifting off of my mat, when it should not be lifting! know what i mean?
hope your afternoon is going well! :)
As far as health and fitness mags go, I really like Women's Health. That's what I look for when I'm shuffling through all of the tattered and 3-year-old magazines at the student fitness center. Otherwise I love Rolling Stone :)
I too am a BIG magazine fan (obvi from my post yesterday haha) I guess my favorites are the ones that combine ALL three topics--fitness, nutrition, cooking...one's like Women's Health, Fitness, and Self are great! And to be a little naughty? Cosmo.
What a great subject for a post. I can't believe you're not a Self fan! :( I have read a few issues of Women's Health but I agree it's a bit dense, and one of the reasons I like Self is because it doesn't just discuss diet & exercise, but also other women's issues that are interesting. I am a magazine nut too...my favorites are probably Self & Real Simple, if I had to just live on two! I've subscribed to too many throuhout the years, I think I did Town & Country when I was 15 or something ridiculous!
I think you're fabulous too--have a great Thursday, Jess!
I love Cooking Light too - I read it cover to cover!
have you read oxygen? it seems kinda body-buildery at first but the nutritional info and training plans are incredible. i also love women's health and shape :D
Amazing gym!!!!
I like Woman's health, healthy, self, fitness, shape.
I'M A MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTION ADDICT!!!!!!!!!! I read tooooooo many magazines, and weigh down the mailman in his delivery route, haha! :-D
Thanks for your comments last night, they cheered me up!
Yeah, I hold off completely on working out when I feel awful. I know that when my head is throbbing, and my muscles and joints hurt, its time to take it easy and rest! That's what my body needs the most in those instances.
And I am getting certified through NASM (nasm.org)
Have a great Thursday Jess!
WOW i thought that was your gym! sooo beautiful
oh and about the mags... i always go through the special olympics to get my magazine subscriptions.. they cost a couple of $$ more but they donate a lot of money to the special olympics.
