We Are Lucky

This is the same highway that runs outside my house 500+ miles away!

Good evening blog pals! Well, just because I'm still on midterm/finals hiatus doesn't mean I'm off posting completely (I was thinking about it, but it's far too addicting! Haha).

For the first time, I live somewhere different from the area where I grew up. I was both extremely excited and nervous to move. There are things I love about my home town, but for the moment I'd like to focus on the present and future.

Do you have a favorite bike route? What's the longest bike experience/hike you've taken?

I absolutely love Santa Cruz. I love that I'm within walking distance to the beach. I love that the weather is still relatively mild (though generally much cooler than I'm used to, but it's still California!). I love that I'm within walking distance to school. I love that strangers smile and say hello just by virtue of living in the same town and loving life. I love that there is an emphasis on health if you look for it, and farmer's markets.
Hello rollercoaster at the warf!

I love that it is an incredibly diverse and varied area. Basically, anything or any type of person you would want to find is out there; you may have to look a little bit. On the same note, anything you would like to avoid (for instance, I'm not big into the 'party' scene) there are plenty of places to feel comfortable. My mother was worried about the area being "sketchy" (we're from small town southern california, remember) and, while there are areas with homelessness and drugs, it is most definitely not dangerous or trashy! I mean, anywhere can be dangerous if you don't have your head on your shoulders!
The forest meets the ocean.

So what do you love about the town that you live in right now? We are all incredibly lucky to have health, and (at most times!) sanity and happiness- so let's remember just how fortunate we are! Happy thursday ;) Back to some elbow grease!

i love that there can be very laid back relaxing spots on SD and there are so many beaches to go to, yet the mountains are only a 45 min drive away!

Oh you are making me miss California so much! You know we are opposites, right? I was brought up in a small town in Northern CA and then went to college in the OC. I don't know Santa Cruz very well but I hear the campus is beautiful and obviously from your photos it's a nice place! I do fine it comforting that Hwy 1 runs all the way up and down the state--like we could run home if we had to ;)

Just wondering what school your going to. I was thinking of transferring out to Cali, my family lives in San Luis Obispo, and am trying to look into schools. I always thought Santa Cruz was really nice.

i love that everything is so close in my town, and everyone knows each other (sometimes a blessing, sometimes not)

I love that there are no sidewalks or street lights and it gets pitch black at night.

My mom lives right next to an expressway, and when she spends the night, she says "those birds chirping woke me up this morning!"

I've never been to California :O(

I love New Orleans for its rich culture and heritage. The French Quarter during the day is so beautiful. It is so lovely to just walk around and enjoy the architecture. The people in New Orleans are so friendly, this is the south after all :). We tell everyone "hi". Love that!

My boyfriend is from San Diego and we went there over this past summer to visit his family. Let me just tell you- I fell in love and definitely would not mind moving to that area :) How lucky you are to have grown up in Cali! It is breathtaking :)

Hope you are enjoying your Friday!

Ha, you are my # fan - my husband, even looking at the ravioli, wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot poll!

Its actually a river we live by in a NW suburb 55 miles from Chicago.

Regarding the yoga question, I personally enjoy the 60 minute classes. I find that this gives me the feeling like I've worked out, and I feel more strengthened and stretched out. I find the shorter classes to not be able to move me enough. But I think it's all personal preference. In terms of not being able to turn your mind off, I find it help to just stare at one point, and really focus on the flow of the breath, listening to the teacher and going deeper into the pose. Feeling the "burn" by going to my limits helps me not really be able to think about anything else! haha. I find that my mind wanders when I take a slower paced class.... maybe you could try a faster class to see if you like it. :)

Santa Cruz looks beautiful!

I live in New England (R.I. to be specific) and I love all the seasons. I love the beautiful fall foliage, the cold and snowy winters and the summers on the ocean!

I love Santa Cruz too ~ especially the beach! :-)

What I like about my own town is that there are so many places to experience the beauties of nature - lots of hills, lakes, and hiking trails with views of the bay. I love being outside!
